Sex Drive, Performance Strengthened by Chinese Medicine Despite Anti-Depressant Use

Several separate studies, at the Universities of Nevada and Montana, as well as Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan have supported the assertion that acupuncture and Chinese medical herbology are very useful in treating the lowered libido and erectile difficulties which often plague those using antidepressant medications. While the studies showed that this was true across the board, regardless of whether the patient was using the pharmaceuticals, the effect was especially marked when it manifested as a drug side effect. An article summarizing the studies can be read here:

The researchers measured significant improvements in sexual function for both the male and female groups in the study. They noted that, “This study suggests a potential role for acupuncture in the treatment of the sexual side-effects of SSRIs and SNRIs as well for a potential benefit of integrating medical and complementary and alternative practitioners.” These findings are consistent with other research. Researchers from the University of Nevada and Montana State University conclude that acupuncture is “effective for reducing some FSD (female sexual dysfunction) problems….”

Here at the Northside Holistic Center we treat a wider variety of drug side effects daily and the sexual side effects of the mood enhancing drugs are usually extremely responsive to treatment in both men and women. Beyond that, I also see many cases of erectile dysfunction, in men, and lowered libido in both genders which are not necessarily linked to the use of the pharmaceuticals. These cases almost invariably respond very well to treatment.
